The Heart Behind the Shore - Meet Natalie

Your hostess, Natalie would like to welcome you to the Shamrock on the Shore!

Natalie balances her time between being a Nurse Practitioner in the Emergency Room and interior design.

Her philosophy is, “My goal has always been beauty that you want to live in, the way you want to live in it. I strive to create a space that says and does what you need… peace, energy, sanctuary, vacation.  We strive to make this space feel like home for you, for a day or a month. We want our vacation space to make you want to come back again and again!”

About the Story Behind Shamrock by the Shore

Every historic home has a story — and ours begins with a man whose life was shaped by the sea.

You might say saltwater ran in Charles Drouet’s blood. Born in 1870 to French immigrants who arrived in Galveston in 1842, Drouet grew up surrounded by the rhythms of the Gulf. His father, Sebastian Drouet, was one of the island’s longest-serving ship captains in the 19th century, and Charles followed in his wake — first as a salvage pilot, and later as president of the Intracoastal Towing and Transportation Company.

In August of 1900, Drouet married Mary Steinhoff, just three weeks before the Great Galveston Hurricane devastated the island. Afterward, he built a thriving business salvaging ships lost to the storm. In 1903, he constructed this very home on a block that had suffered total destruction — a symbol of renewal and resilience in a city rebuilding from tragedy.

As Galveston’s shipping industry shifted inland, the Drouets eventually moved their business to Houston but maintained their ties to the island, investing in local land as Galveston grew through the 1910s and 1920s.

Charles Drouet passed away in 1932 at age 61, but his legacy lives on through this beautifully restored property — now lovingly reimagined as Shamrock on the Shore, a retreat that honors Galveston’s seafaring past while offering every modern comfort for today’s traveler.
